There was once a theme park for mermaids, and all the people in the area knew of the place, and had memories of the place, and liked to share stories of this place. But one day, a big bad economic disaster struck, and all those people who spoke of the place forgot to keep coming.
And so the day came when the theme park admitted it was beaten and defeated, and would therefore have to close its doors forever.
Many a mermaid were not happy. Many a sailor were horrified.
And the mighty State stepped in and said, “But this is a theme park that’s too special to fail.” And thus it was decided, through various legislative doings I would be incapable of explaining, that this theme park would become a state park instead, so that the big bad economic disaster could not lay waste to this place, and that our children could have an opportunity to visit these mermaids in captivity.
At which point, I’m sure, some animal rights activists got upset.
