Portraits

Jingna Zhang

As I said previously, I intend to start doing portraits over the next year.  Technically, I’ve already started.  As such, I’ve been looking at the work of various photographers with an eye toward what they are doing and how they are doing it–to see what I like and what I don’t like.  There’s a lot more to learn.

But understand this: I mean “portrait” in the broadest sense, and intend to explore all options.  From formal sittings to man-on-the-street to high fashion to infants to casual to everything else I can think of.

One photographer whose work I like is on FlickR: Jingna Zhang, aka zenmotion.  What do I like?  The color.  The sharpness.  The attitude.  I also love the fact that one of her photographs (with the violin) seems to have been extracted directly from one of my books.More Jingna Zhang

Is hers the direction I want to go?  I don’t know.  This is an exploration.  I hope you’ll support my journey with your thoughts, comments, and criticisms.  I have some ideas of where I want to go with my photography, but it’s all very basic.  I have ideas of where I want to go with my writing, too, and 2010 will see a couple of steps in the right direction (steps that have been announced and/or steps that have been kept hidden).

Let’s see what comes next, shall we?
